Nylon Tricot “Genie Jammies”

When I was a little girl my Grandma made me and my sisters Genie Pajamas, or what we liked to call Genie Jammies! And believe me when I say, we LOVED ’em! So, I was super excited when I found out my aunt still had a pattern. As you can see from the picture they are very “genie like” and made out of a silky fabric called nylon tricot.

This fabric is super slippery—so it makes sewing kinda hard. But it is really light and breathable, AND it also doesn’t fray! So, putting the elastic in was quite simple because I didn’t worry about making a super nice casing. I just folded it over and pulled the elastic through. Who’s gonna know right!?!

I’m not sure where you can find a pattern like this (like I said, my grandma made these when I was just a little girl…so it’s been awhile.) But to tell you the truth, I haven’t ever looked—so they may not be that hard to come by. (If any of you find an official one…let me know!) I also have seen similar pajamas at The Quilted Bear. Just search under children’s clothing and you should be able to find a nightgown version. Super Cute!

Update: Here is a pattern I found to make a nightgown version. The bodice and sleeves are the same as my genie jammie version. just click here to see a pattern for a summer night dress!

  2. Hello, I have been looking everywhere for these and I do not sew. Would you be willing to make some for my four year old and I could pay you?

Thanks so much, and happy holidays.
