Father’s Day Cards

Well, first off let me apologize for the wacky color of my picture. oh dear. Sometimes I am just camera challenged—so sorry! Anyhow, with Father’s Day coming up this Sunday I decided to make some father’s day cards. I got this super cute idea at familyfun.go.com (just visit their site for instructions) and I thought I would pass it along to you! They are super easy and a great way to use up some random pieces of scrapbook paper, of which I seem to have a plethora! So happy card making and happy Father’s Day! Yippi!

A Father’s Day Tutorial

With Father’s Day on Sunday, I thought I’d share a tutorial for a great gift idea for Dad (instead of my usual Felt Friday). I first got the idea for a car registration holder from Moms Mess. It isn’t always easy to find homemade gifts to give men, so the instant I saw it I wanted to make one. Here is my version.
What you need:
- Manly fabric cut into 2 pieces measuring 12.5 x 10 inches
- Clear vinyl cut into 2 pieces measuring 5.25 x 10 inches
- Heavy weight fusible interfacing measuring 12.5 x 10 inches
- Bias or twill tape cut into 2 10 inch strips
After you’ve cut everything out, apply the interfacing to the wrong side of one piece of your fabric. Remove the paper backing and set aside.
Grad your vinyl and tape. Fold and iron the tape in half. Sew the tape on one long end of each piece of vinyl.

Layer your vinyl pieces on the interfaced piece of fabric (all facing right side up) so it looks like this:

Add the last piece of fabric on top, with the right side down.

Sew together, leaving a 3-4 inch opening on one side.

Trim seams and flip right side out.

Pin opening closed and handstitch shut. Iron the outside (DO NOT iron the inside with the vinyl).

Add sticky back velcro to the inside and you are done! Now your father or husband will never lose his car registration and proof of insurance information again!

MP3 Player Case
With Father’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d throw an idea out there for possible gift ideas for those tech savvy guys in your life. For Christmas my husband got a Zune and I made him a “manly” case to store and protect his new treasure. It’s made from corduroy salvaged from altered pants (yes, I save things like that) and lined with coordinating red fabric, velcro tab closure, and a red button to tie it together. It’s functional, good-looking, and he loves it.

Sidenote: if the case looks a little worn, it is because this picture was barely taken, after 6 months of daily use.
